Anxiety and Depression Overcome:

I felt like I was in a hole and was feeling low and that I had lost the resilience I had previously had. I felt shell shocked after the lockdown at the beginning of the year and trying to work with the children at home. I couldn't think straight and had low motivation which was further impacting on my confidence and ability to reach out to people. The low mood was allowing negative thoughts to take over and the residual negative voice in my mind to rise up. I was frequently tearful and anxious.

My first session felt like 'a warm bath for the mind!' It was so good to let things out in a safe space and also be taken away by the guided relaxation. The fog is beginning to clear and I am starting to feel like my old self again, which has been fantastic. I am able to reach out to and support colleagues again. I am now starting from a more positive baseline and so I am better able to put practical steps in place to deal with life and work on the areas I need to.

Rayna has a lovely calming aura. She made me feel comfortable and able to be open about my thoughts and feelings. She helped me to realise what I need to keep myself well and that I need to give myself permission to do that."

Just What Was Needed

I really benefited from counselling sessions with Rayna. Over four sessions I saw a definite improvement in some areas of my life that I was having difficulty with. I was so low when I first made contact that I did not expect much. I have had hours of therapy previous to my time with Rayna where I felt I got limited benefit, yet this was the other end of the scale. The results were positively and entirely out of all proportion to the amount of time I invested. It is not an understatement to say that the treatment has saved my life. Whilst most veterans and emergency service workers may have had fleeting thoughts of a destructive nature, even if not serious, mine definitely were. I was close to ending myself, and looking back, it was the lack of resilience I had at the time that was the largest contributor. Rayna was so skilful in getting me to an emotional place where I could start. One of the things that is so crippling about depression, is being so low, you cannot even reach the bottom rung of the ladder. Rayna was instrumental in giving me a powerful, but exceptionally gentle, leg up.

The treatment was such that I was able to discuss and adopt coping strategies, along with some seriously scientific and effective treatments that allowed me to keep my head above water. One of the most powerful techniques employed was the “Rewind Technique”. [I will include a link to info about it] I did this twice in my case - once for a recent abusive relationship (which was the trigger to my referral) and one for the 27 years of collective trauma I experienced in both the Army and the police. And it is truly magical. Although feeling the most tired I have ever felt after a full night’s sleep after it, the treatment allowed me to look at the events I had lived through much more objectively, and now they do not cause the emotional triggers they once did. Mind-blowing, and mind-saving. After this treatment, and as the the situational problems that triggered my condition started to pass, I was able to make headway into the next stage of my life—which, at the time of writing is still full of stress and uncertainty. It was the treatment I had, and the compassionate nature of the therapy I received that allowed me to get to where I am.

I am now in a position where I am back to work, fighting my current fights positively rather than destructively, and genuinely feel positive about my future. Contrast that to just 6 months ago, where I was clinically depressed and anxious, had the darkest of thoughts, and saw no light at the end of a tunnel. Now, I’m occupying the fast lane on the road to recovery and I have the tools available to get me to where I need to be. Overall, the experience of this method was life-changing. I would wholeheartedly recommend this type of treatment for others. I believe in it that much, that for my last career, I want to train as a Human Givens psychotherapist myself. I have applied for funding and enquired about courses. That is how much I believe in it, and that is not in short as a direct result of the compassionate and inspiring treatment I got from Rayna.

Moving On From A Painful Past

I really feel that this therapy helped me to put some unwanted thoughts into the past and has helped me to move forward in my life. Rayna is lovely, I felt at ease with her immediately and always felt safe and comfortable during our sessions. I would definitely recommend trying it, if you decide it's not for you that's fine but how will you ever know if something will help you or not unless you try it ?

Surviving to Thriving:

I would really encourage anyone to try this approach, it can be short term and your therapist (Rayna was mine-she is great!) will really help to take the pressure off. The relaxation techniques often lead me to feel more confident, less anxious and more relaxed upon leaving the appointment, this also remained for the remainder of the day, week etc. I was very sceptical about therapy, whenever I have had therapy before it felt like I was telling someone my deepest fears and secrets without getting much back, almost re-traumatising myself and it felt easier to leave it and get on with other short term easier wins. However I didn’t need to be sceptical this time, I have been so relaxed, in fits of giggles, had some super silly conversations and have had someone to problem solve with exclusively focused on me, which is sometimes too much to put on my existing support networks. I also felt vindicated as Rayna helped me to see there were also a few environmental factors which were toxic and helped me to address some of these factors for the better. I now have the tools I need. I am sleeping much better, thriving at work and I am much more relaxed. That is such a difference to a few months ago! I would really encourage anyone to just have a go.

Rayna herself is really likeable, warm, personable, with good boundaries. Rayna is really good at remembering little details that make a difference and you always feel like you are in safe, capable hands.
